From polymer chemistry to new materials

Nikolay Enikolopov, also known as Enikolopyan, was a chemist of Armenian descent, born in 1924. After his education in Armenia, he continued his scientific career in Moscow, studying the rates and mechanisms of chemical reactions.

Polymers, materials composed of long molecular chains, became a central focus. His research explored polymerization, reactions exchanging segments between chains and methods of producing materials in the solid state. It connected fundamental chemistry with the development of plastics and composites.

Enikolopov was the founding scientific leader of the Institute of Synthetic Polymeric Materials. He died in 1993; the institute later received his name, continuing a research tradition linking materials science with practical challenges.
