Gabriel Kazanjian
The author of an early handheld hair-drier patent
Gabriel Kazanjian’s name is associated with an early design for a handheld hair drier. The clearest documentary record of his contribution is United States patent 994259. The application was filed on 20 November 1908, and the patent was granted on 6 June 1911.
The apparatus combined an air-producing fan with an electric heater. Its fan was operated manually through a lever at the handle, while the heating component could be detached to supply unheated air. The design shows inventors seeking to make hair drying more portable and controllable.
Hair-drying devices existed before this patent, and the modern appliance emerged through many successive improvements. Kazanjian’s documented technical solution gives him a place within that wider history. His work connects everyday grooming with mechanical design and early uses of electric heating.
