The Girl and the Sun

The endless quest for the sun’s healing water

One evening, after the sun had set, a girl swept her house and threw the rubbish outside. For committing this transgression, she was punished: by day, at the sight of the sun, her face turns dark and she remains as one dead; at night, she comes back to life.

The girl's father put on iron sandals, took an iron staff in hand, and set off on the road to the sun. He goes to ask it for the water in which it washes its face, so that he might bring it home, sprinkle it over his daughter, and heal her. But to this day the girl's father wanders the world and cannot find the sun's dwelling.
