The Boy and the Sun
The legend of a small request and an unfinished sock
A woman is knitting socks for her son. The sock is nearly finished when the sun prepares to set. The boy turns to the sun and pleads:
— Dear sun, wait just a little — let my mother finish my little socks, I'll put them on, and then you can go to your mother.
The sun listens to the boy, waits, and only returns to his mother late in the evening. The Sun-Mother asks her son why he is late.
The sun tells his mother about the little boy and his socks. The Sun-Mother grows angry and curses the little boy who delayed her son: let him die by day and come alive at night, and let his mother never finish his socks.
The boy dies during the day, comes alive at night, goes to his mother and asks for his socks. The poor mother cannot finish them, because whatever she knits unravels by itself.
And the boy is left with no choice but to wander barefoot.
