Craft, colour and memory

The Hovhannes Sharambeyan Museum of Folk Arts in Yerevan brings Armenian decorative and applied arts into focus. Founded in 1978, it grew from the collection of the House of Folk Art and preserves the work of artisans alongside paintings by self-taught artists.

Carpets and flat-woven rugs, embroidery and lace, ceramics, and objects worked in wood, metal and stone reveal how practical materials become expressions of imagination. Look closely at a repeated motif, a woven border or a carved surface: these details offer an inviting way to explore skills passed between generations.
